When to Pass on an Atlanta Apartment

Sometimes the search for a new home or an Atlanta apartment can become desperate, but there are still times when you should pass on a unit or apartment community. If you visit an apartment complex and see any of the conditions below, move on, regardless of the features you love.

Apparent maintenance neglect like un-kept landscaping, mildew or mold, mouse droppings, insect damage or rusty fixtures are key indicators of poor management. Check the hot water and HVAC system in the apartment to make sure they work. If items are in disrepair when the landlord wants to attract tenants, it is unlikely those items will be fixed after the lease is signed.

Sprucing up a unit with fresh paint is an easy and affordable thing for the landlord to complete. Damaged walls, peeling paint and water damage mean keep looking for the right Atlanta apartment. At JAMCO Properties, attentive property managers and on-site maintenance staff address these issues on a regular basis to keep their communities at their best!

Research the neighborhood where the apartment community is located. Check the local paper or do a web based search for crime statistics. Sometimes you might consider an area because of the affordable rent. In that case move into the community with your eyes open. Be aware of the situation. Ultimately, only you are responsible for your safety. Visit the property during different times of the day and night.

Whether it is traffic or neighbors, sounds might be completely out of your control. Nearby airports and trains provide convenient access to transportation for commuting or travel, but they may be noisy during certain times of the day or night.. Ask other residents how they feel about these things. Bins overflowing with pizza boxes and liquor bottles might be an indication of noisy neighbors that party all night. Again, the importance of visiting the property during different times of the day and night cannot be stressed enough.

Finally, make a close inspection of the doors and windows, ensure they open and close properly. And be certain your Atlanta apartment has window treatments for privacy and to help with utility costs. Follow your instincts and you will find the most comfortable Atlanta apartment for you.

3 Walmart Projects in Stone Mountain Area

Residents in Dekalb County apartments and homes will soon have 3 additional Walmart options in Stone Mountain and Lithonia.

Memorial Drive near N. Hairston

The first project is nearly completed, a 150,000 square foot supercenter on Memorial Drive near N. Hairston Rd. Plans are for a second quarter opening this year, and the creation of 250 new jobs.

One nearby competitor, Kroger on N. Hairston, plans to make improvements in the second quarter, too. Kroger is doing a $1 million remodel of the N. Hairston store, with a tentative completion date of April.

Stonecrest and Panola Rd/Covington Hwy

Another Walmart supercenter is under construction near Sam’s Club on Mall Parkway, across from the Mall at Stonecrest.

A third project, a Walmart Neighborhood Market, has not begun construction yet. The Neighborhood Market, which is a grocery-only concept, is slated to replace the former Big Lots at the corner of Panola Road and Covington Highway.

De-Clutter

Junk accumulates in our homes. It’s a simple fact. That is why when you Google “organization” every list of 10 things to-do  is at least 5 ways to throw things out. But sometimes the clutter in your life is the stuff you care for the most. How do you keep the things attached to the memories you love?

  1. Store:  The fact is you might love it, but you don’t have a need for it everyday. Collections, gifts, clothing items, art… the list is endless. Properly storing these items under the bed or in a large closet is perfectly fine. A good tip is to purchase matching storage from a popular dealer. This means if your investment is damaged it can be replaced without much effort and you keep the appearance of your home neat. The Container Store has lots of cheap storage solutions. It’s what they do. Be armed with storage options.
  2. Rotate:  Once you have some memories put away don’t forget about them. While you don’t need these items everyday you can bring them out of the closet to enjoy. Rotating your collections on display keeps your house fresh for guests too.
  3. Corral:  Life is hectic and not everything in a home ends up where it belongs. Put containers in disaster prone areas to corral the clutter. When a container is full return each item to its right home. Trays, baskets, decorative boxes make excellent temporary lodging for hats, gloves, keys, sunglasses and more. The stair basket sold on Amazon.com comes to mind for when you aren’t ready to climb those stairs.
  4. Stack:  Floor space is valuable real estate especially in an apartment with a modest floor plan. Having the proper way to use vertical space can safely secure the items you want to keep around for a long time.
  5. Reduce:  Only own what you love. No list about organization is complete without at least one suggestion to throw out the junk (see above). Before you make a purchase decide if you really need the item. Do you have one like it in storage? Can you reuse something you all ready purchased? Will you love it forever?

Of course you can always move into a larger space if none of this will do – like the spacious floor plans at Linden Ridge!
